Each character has a number of gifts they’ll prefer above all others, which, if given, will help raise their Friendship Level faster. Some of these gifts, however, can be quite hard to find, so you can always give them one of the universally liked gifts instead. Giving gifts will also help increase your Communication Skill, which will provide small boosts to your friendship growth with the residents of Olive Town as you level it up. On this page: While it may appear to be the least important skill in the game, increasing your Communication Skill will provide you with boosts to your friendship growth, allowing you to increase a character’s Friendship Level fast, and crafting recipes for items, such as the universally liked gifts and makers. The Communication Skill is divided into 10 separate levels and it’s easily levelled up by talking to Olive Town residents, giving them gifts and gradually increasing their Friendship Level. Each resident of Olive Town has an item, or even multiple items, which they prefer above all others and giving them this specific item will grant you a bigger boost to their Friendship Level. These items can range from meals you’ve cooked in your kitchen to animal produce to furniture items. Be careful though - every character has a couple of items, like the rubbish you may fish out of the river, which they absolutely hate; giving them one of these items will not go down well, so always pay attention to how someone reacts when you give them a gift. You can gauge how much a character likes an item by the words they say and how many musical notes appear above their head; an enthusiastic response accompanied by a stream of musical notes means they love your gift. There are also a number of universally liked items which every Olive Town resident will happily receive. You should also give a resident a gift on their birthday, especially if you want to max out their Friendship Level. Thankfully, you can easily find a complete list of the resident’s birthdays by visiting the Calendar in your Notebook. Since you can only give each resident one gift per day, it’s a good idea to plan out who you want to befriend and which items you wish to give them. Especially since you’ll need to hunt down that villager to give them the gift. Thankfully, the Notebook will provide you with some assistance; not only does the Resident Information section keep track of who you’ve given gifts to each day, but the Map will give you a general idea of the residents current location. It’s important to note, however, that you can’t give gifts to the Earth Spirits, Pond Spirit or your child, as they don’t have a Friendship Level or appear in the Residential Information section of your Notebook. You’ll unlock these items by increasing your Communication Skill and, at first, they’ll be on sale in the General Store. These items do, however, cost a significant amount of money, so you should only really purchase them if you have money to burn or want to quickly increase a character’s Friendship Level. For some Olive Town residents, these items like the Fashionable Bracelet are one of their favourite gifts, which, considering you can buy these items from the General Store, make them easy to befriend. If you continue to level up your Communication Skill, you’ll eventually unlock the crafting recipes for these items. While this will save you money, the recipes do consume a number of useful items, the Fashionable Bracelet requires 15 Silver Ingots and one Emerald for example, so you may prefer to continue buying them from the General Store. The universally liked gifts include:
Jewellery Ring Jewellery Locket Fashionable Bracelet Shiny Watch
It’s important to note that, if you marry one of these women, their max Friendship Level will be increased to 15, with these final five levels being harder to reach than the ones before it.
