Unlike some quests which require you to find Strangers to get started, you can happen upon these naturally. And if you do, you’re in for a shock - they’re particularly gruesome, and finding one isn’t the end. There’s a total of three Killer Clue piece locations, which then lead you to the Pieced Together Map - and catching the serial killer. Head to a road that intersects with the railroad, and you’ll find a bloody patch and some dismembered body parts on the road side. Follow the trail of blood until you come to a rock up the hill to find a particularly gruesome scene. On the rock nearby is a dismembered head. Take the piece of paper out of its mouth to get the Killer Clue 1 Piece. If you are on the road travelling north, you’ll find the blood trail on your right, leading to underneath a section of railroad. You’ll find the head, and the second Killer Clue Piece, on the left side. The map isn’t complete yet - still one more section to go. You need to specifically head east of Braithwaite Manor, near the ‘S’ in the word ‘Meadows’ that trails down the map vertically: From the north, look right to find the trail of blood, leading you to a tree. The victim’s head - and the third and final piece of the Killer Clue - is on the left. It won’t be named that on the map if you haven’t been close, but you’ll find it going south-west out of Valentine. When you get close enough, a white Stranger area will appear on the map, telling you you’re in the right direction. You’re specifically looking for a destroyed hut with a pair of basement doors. It’s the only structure on the map in this radius, so shouldn’t be too difficult to find. Provided you have the three clues above, you can open these doors and enter. Once inside, be sure to equip your Lantern (it’s in your Weapons slot, in the bottom right corner) so you can see clearer. We recommend going first-person to get a closer look - though perhaps not if you’re squeamish. You should pick up the two letters on the table to the right, before going round the corner. When you are ready, investigate the knife in the middle of the floor at the back of the basement. You’ll be ambushed as soon as you do. After the cutscene, fight back - a single punch should knock out the serial killer. Now hogtie him and take him to the local Sheriff as instructed. When you arrive, drop him near the desk, and after the cutscene, be prepared to aim (and fire) your weapon at the serial killer who is attacking the Sheriff. Doing so will see him reward you $20 - a pretty measly sum for the trouble you’ve gone through, but uncovering these scenes (and stopping the killer) is possibly reward enough.
