Revolver, a spiritual successor to Jade Empire, was never officially announced. Bits and pieces about it surfaced over the years, before BioWare finally went into detail on the game in its recent 25th anniversary book. A new video reveals four tracks to drive around as the likes of Vivi, Mog and Steiner, while throwing magicite attacks to gain pole position. Though they’ve been shown in previous trailers, this is the first time they’ve been named. There’s Zozo from Final Fantasy 6, the rain-soaked thieves den; the grand city of Alexandria from Final Fantasy 9; the expansive Big Bridge from Final Fantasy 5; and Gold Saucer from Final Fantasy 7, its colourful theme park....

Each season, Destiny 2 has a story which updates with new steps each week - requiring you to collect season-specific currency and activities to progress. In Season of the Seraph, this is finding Seraph Key Codes and Resonate Stems, which will in turn allow you to open Seraph Chests and acquire Override Frequencies. You may have watched and read Ian’s excellent PlayStation VR 2 content last week - but we had questions about the new headset. Lots of them. As we didn’t get to see the hardware in person, we pinned down Ian (not literally) and bombarded him with our queries. Rather obligingly, Ian was very forthcoming and his segment is the centrepiece of this week’s show. Beyond that, it’s about State of Play as we mull over the likes of God of War Ragnarok, Tekken 8 and Rise of the Ronin, while Alex has much to say about Capcom’s ExoPrimal, which wasn’t in the State of Play but ended up as a discussion point anyway....

That starts with the thorny topic of the PlayStation 4’s so-called CBOMB issue - a hot topic for those interested in games preservation. Essentially, the internal battery on the PS4 will eventually expire, taking with it the ability to play games but only if the console is unable to access a Sony server to validate the current date and time. This is obviously not an issue in the here and now, since Sony’s servers are fully armed and operational - but what about in ten years’ time?...

To recap on the story so far: a trio of high profile staff behind the first Disco Elysium game were fired from developer ZA/UM following the company’s takeover by Estonian businessmen Ilmar Kompus, who is now ZA/UM’s boss and controlling shareholder, and Tõnis Haavel who was previously convicted of investment fraud. On the one side, some of the staff - including Disco Elysium game director Robert Kurvitz and art director Aleksander Rostov - have previously alleged that Kompus and Haavel’s takeover was fraudulent, and that they were booted out when trying to discover more....

Earlier this month, in an interview with Men’s Journal, Johnson briefly mentioned he was working on bringing “one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen”. It’s now been reported that the game is Call of Duty, according to sources close to movie news site Giant Freakin Robot. It’s currently unknown what the story or setting of the film will be. With the first game taking place in World War 2 but later games moving to modern warfare and into the future, there are plenty of options....

Dying Light has been a massive success for Techland - the developer says the game has now been played by over 20 million players since its launch back in 2015 - and it’s received an absolute stack of DLC, both free and paid, over the years as a result (and, of course, a sequel is due on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox this December). All that DLC was bundled together for a special Platinum Edition of Dying Light on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox earlier in 2021, and it’s this version that’s now been confirmed to be making its way to Switch at some currently undisclosed future point....

In an earnings call last night, CEO Andrew Wilson said EA’s Star Wars titles had made “over $3bn (£2.2bn) in net bookings” and had sold a total of 52m copies. Mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is a franchise worth $1bn (£733m) alone, and Wilson highlighted that EA had created a portfolio of other successful Star Wars titles including “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic [sic]… Battlefront, Jedi: Fallen Order and most recently, Squadrons....

The message, from chief people officer Mala Singh, follows internal criticism of EA by some employees for not speaking out sooner in support - as other game developers have. “I want to acknowledge the pain and fear that our LGBTQ+, specifically our Transgender community, is experiencing in light of emerging legislation in the US and the ongoing attacks on their human rights,” Singh wrote in post shared on EA’s blog....

Although the publisher confirmed it is “still hard at work on building the next singleplayer focused experience for Dragon Age” and that we have to wait until “next year when [EA/BioWare] can talk more about what [they’re] working on”, the new short stories - written by members of the BioWare team - should help tide us over. The first, Won’t Know When, is written by Brianne Battye, whilst the second - The Flame Eternal - has been penned by Sylvia Feketekuty....

Elden Ring: The Board Game looks to be as vast as its on-screen counterpart, spanning a number of upcoming standalone games and smaller expansions in order to cover the whole of the Lands Between. Players’ progress will carry across between each box (or they can jump in with a new, appropriately-levelled character), eventually forming a tabletop campaign matching Elden Ring’s story that Steamforged says will ultimately last over 100 hours....

However, it’s also full of convoluted steps, rare items such as the Weathered Dagger and Mending Rune of Death, not to mention a plethora of secret places to uncover. Available to play on itch.io, the game offers a miniature green-tinged version of the Lands Between - or at least, the Precipice of Anticipation, Northern Limgrave, and Stormveil Castle - presented in a Zelda-inspired top-down fashion. The game runs in-browser, but Shin recommends using real Game Boy hardware or an Analogue Pocket for saving, better colours, and higher accuracy. It begins at the start of the game with a battle against the Grafted Scion and soon follows the basic template of the story....
